Ministry Staff

Though I was born in 1946 in Rensselaer, Indiana, I spent almost all of my youth in Indianapolis. I graduated from Columbus High School and received my B.A. from Purdue University in 1969 with a Sociology Major and a Psychology Minor. From 1978 to 1983, I was principal and Master Teacher at our church school, Zionsville Christian Schools. When the school closed, I taught for one year at Indianapolis Baptist High School before returning to the State of Indiana’s Department of Workforce Development in Research and Analysis. I have been with the state for almost 30 years as a Labor Market Analyst primarily doing Industry and Occupational Projections. Bev and I recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary after having raised four exceptionable children, Andy, Samuel, Mary, and Paul. We have seven wonderful grandchildren, Ethan, Cole, Reed, Jillian, Hans, Aidan, and Annika.

I accepted Christ as my Savior on September 19, 1975, in a revival service at our church. In my 34 years at Cornerstone Baptist Church, I have served as usher, treasurer, deacon, Sunday School and Junior Church teacher, and Youth Director. My burden for children and youth is illustrated in our annual Birthday Party for Jesus. After seeing children lined up to see Santa Claus, my heart broke to think how many children had probably never heard the true meaning of Christmas. As a result, Cornerstone’s Birthday Party for Jesus has pointed children to the Savior annually for the past 25 years.

More Information About Me

My responsibilities at church are...preparing weekly teaching materials for the four and five- year-old Junior Church and teaching the 1st through 6th grade Junior Church. I also plan the annual Birthday Party for Jesus and teach for Vacation Bible School.

My favorite thing about being at Cornerstone is...that all preaching and teaching is done with the Word of God as the final authority for faith and practice.

My Favorite Bible verse is...Isaiah 40:31: "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

If you want to read a good book get…Other than the Bible, I’ve been reading a lot of Civil War history books as part of my Genealogy research, but as far as one that might interest people in general, I would recommend Your Adversary, the Devil by J. Dwight Pentecost.

The best movie I’ve ever seen is...It’s a Wonderful Life.

If I had a dream vacation I would... take either a Bill Gaither cruise, or travel to all the places my ancestors lived beginning from the time they emigrated from Scotland.

If I could do a hobby for a living I’d...do movie reviews from a Christian perspective.

My favorite sports team to cheer for is...the Indianapolis Colts.

My favorite hymn is...most hymns with a good bass part.

Why do you do what you do?...This question is answered basically by the second paragraph above, but I also like David's reply to his brothers chiding him because he wanted to answer the taunts and ridicule of Goliath against the armies of the one true God of Israel. I Samuel 17:29b: "Is there not a cause?"
