Originally the church was organized and named First Baptist Church of Zionsville on January 31, 1963. There were eleven present at the organizational meeting, which was held at 75 N. Main Street in the city of Zionsville, Indiana. The first pastor was Pastor John Stubblefield. In 1965, Rev. Mark Stennett took over as pastor and served until 1973, when Rev. H. Eugene Riker began his ministry here.

In February 1984, I, Pastor Mark Thacker, was called as the fourth pastor of the church. At the time, the church and parsonage were up for sale, but no offers had been made. We soon took the property off the market, and the Lord blessed us as the congregation began to grow and offerings increased. We made a number of renovations to the 100-year-old building, but it seemed a never-ending battle to keep the building in shape. Meanwhile, we had been praying for the Lord to open up the door to move to a new and more visible location to get a fresh start.

In His timing, the Lord gave us land through Charlie and Verlene Schooler, members of our church. They gave the church 7.7 acres on which to build. In 1995, we sold the old church building to a doctor who turned it into a furniture store.

With the money we received from the sale of the church, we built a new building at the corner of State Road 334 and 650 East, near Interstate 65, on the outskirts of Whitestown, IN. The church was dedicated in 1996. Because of the change of address, the church was then renamed Cornerstone Baptist Church.

Again the Lord began to bless us, and seven years later we were approached by the Duke Corporation with an offer to buy our land for a new development called the Anson project. After much prayer, counsel, and negotiations we entered into an agreement to sell the property. At that time, Duke gave us 8.7 acres in exchange for our land. We were then able to build a new church four times larger than the one we had with existing funds and those from the sale of the former property.

We moved to our new location in July 2007 at the corner of State Road 334 and 700 East, Whitestown, Indiana. It is amazing to see God’s hand in leading us to where we are today. This is a growing and thriving area, and we are so excited to be positioned to minister to the people God has given us. We desire to see people come to know the Lord as their Savior and to have the opportunity to disciple people for the Lord. Why not visit and experience the love and warmth of our congregation? We would love to worship with you.
